Occupation: teacher (retired)
How long have you had migraines?
30 years. I went back to work and that’s when they started. I don’t know if going to work brought them on but that’s when they started.
When do you usually get migraines?
My number one trigger is stress. Liquor is also a definite trigger but I don’t drink anymore. Aged cheeses are a trigger and travel is another main trigger. I’m definitely sensitive to sound and flickering lights. Fortunately, smells do not bother me.
What have you tried pre-Cefaly?
I’ve tried everything: beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, anti-seizure medication, antidepressants, different supplements and vitamins, etc. I also tried two rounds of neurotoxin injections, which did not work, and chiropractic care, which did not work. These days I use a nasal spray when I have a migraine and it’s the only thing that works for me to abort a migraine — and it only works about 1/3 of time. The nasal spray gives me really bad side effects and makes me very sleepy and I feel just really bad, like hangover bad, and I have to go to bed. When it works the pain will go away but it ruins my entire day and I can’t do anything.
What does your migraine feel like?
It’s on the right side of my head behind my eye. It starts to slowly drift to the right side of my head and is just excruciatingly painful.
How did you hear about Cefaly?
I read about it on Facebook. A friend of mine posted an article about it; her daughter has migraines.
What’s your Cefaly experience like?
It’s wonderful, it is absolutely the most incredible experience I’ve ever had! Before Cefaly I had about three migraines a week and now I rarely have them. I’m down to maybe one a month it’s just been amazing. The difference it’s made in my life is incredible. I feel like it’s literally given me my life back because when you have three migraines a week you don’t’ have a life when they’re as severe as mine were. Also, I’ve been diagnosed with tension headaches and many mornings I wake up with a tension headache and I’ll put on my Cefaly and by the time my Cefaly is through the headache is gone.
What made you want to share your story?
It’s changed my life! Cefaly has been so wonderful and I tell everybody I know that knows anybody with migraines. I want to share because I just want to tell everybody. There really aren’t any doctors who know about migraines in Tulsa. When my doctor retired I almost cried. He referred me to a primary care provider but it turns out I don’t need a neurologist anymore. My PCP gave me the prescription for Cefaly and my life is very different now. People need to know; especially in Tulsa. It’s been a lifesaver for me, it really has.
