How long have you had migraines?
I’ve had migraines since I was 12.
When do you usually get migraines?
There hasn’t really been any one specific trigger. Sometimes I’ve walked out to the bright sun in a parking lot and gotten a migraine but it’s not every time. I’ve noticed that barometric pressure affects me. If it falls below 30 Hg I’m very apt to get a headache. Lately we’ve had a lot of rainy weather that’s not typical of here, so I’ve had my fair share of migraines and headaches.
What have you tried pre-Cefaly?
Over the years I’ve tried different migraine medications, anti-seizure medications, anti-depressants, etc. I’ve tried massage therapy and that worked a little bit. I tried acupuncture but that didn’t work at all.
What does your migraine feel like?
To me a full migraine attack is with an aura so I know when that’s coming. I’ll get a really bad sharp pain and then it settles down and gets dull. It’ll last several hours. When I have a bad migraine I just want to go to a dark room and shut the door. Now I can do that but when I was working and younger that was very difficult to do. At that time I didn’t have the Cefaly either. Now that I have a Cefaly I put it on right away and that really helps. I’ve had the device almost 5-years now.
How did you hear about Cefaly?
My neurologist recommended it. She said she had one and asked me if I wanted to try it.
What’s your Cefaly experience like?
It’s been very positive. I really like it; especially the newer smaller one because I can walk around with it and travel with it. I like that I can plug it in and recharge it. I have less migraines now. The device also really helps when I’m getting a migraine. The Cefaly interrupts the migraine cycle for me. I don’t have any strong medication that I have to take anymore.
What made you want to share your story?
I really want to help other sufferers. There are a lot of people out there with migraines. My son has inherited my migraines. My father and my mother had migraines too. I told my son about the Cefaly and showed it to him when I saw him. He went to his doctor and asked his doctor for a prescription. It’s helping him too. It’s a great alternative to get relief without drugs and also to not have to lose so many sick days to your migraines.
