Alison: Cefaly makes my head pain more tolerable

First Name: Alison
Age: 35
Location: West Hills, California
Years with Migraines: 27
Occupation: Marriage and family therapist.

How long have you had migraines?
I’ve had migraines most of my life, beginning around the age of 8.

When do you usually get migraines?
I’ve identified triggers over the years, like: hormonal changes, red wine, lack of sleep, muscle spasms, different allergies, seasonal change, and inflammation from anything will trigger a migraine. Although my migraines can be triggered by triggers I can also just have migraine for no reason in particular.

What have you tried pre-Cefaly?
I’ve tired almost every medication to treat migraines from beta blockers, anti-depressants and anti-epileptics to neurotoxin injections.

What does your migraine feel like?
It feels like an ice pick and a vice all at the same time. It’s above my eyes, around my temples, and it feels like I get a muscle spasm at the very base of my skull. I usually have nausea and dizziness.

How did you hear about Cefaly?
I researched it myself before it was approved in the States and as soon as it was approved I went to a nearby headache clinic and asked them to write me a prescription for it so I could use it.

What’s your Cefaly experience like?
I really like it and I’m actually on my second one as I ordered the Cefaly Dual when it came out. I use it whenever I have a headache. I also do the preventive setting every day for a 20-minute cycle, which has helped decrease the intensity of my migraines. I was the first one I know at my headache clinic to get one. I was able to do the full 20 –minute setting right away. When I have a migraine and I use the device on the acute setting, the migraine goes away while I’m using it and if I keep going it’ll help for the long run. Whenever I have it on the headache is always more tolerable.

What made you want to share your story?
I have been really happy with the Cefaly and hope that my story can help other people realize there are helpful treatment options out there.
