Lorilee is a military veteran who uses the Cefaly device. She spoke with us previously and is now also part of a special series on the Cefaly website in honor of Veterans’ Day. It turns out, veterans get migraines too… some from years in stressful situations and others developed headaches before or after their service. Lorilee served four years in the Army. She is now a busy stay at home mom.
How long have you had migraines?
I was in two car accidents in a row and as a result I’ve had migraines for the past 3-years. It’s unfortunate. I was hit from behind while my car was stopped and less than 3 months later I was hit again, also while I was stopped.
When do you usually get migraines?
All the time! I have migraines 24/7. I have problems in my neck with my C5 and C6, they’re permanently out of place, which doesn’t help the situation. Bright lights and high-pitched noises make everything worse.
What have you tried pre-Cefaly?
I’ve tried many different preventative and abortive migraine medications and pain relievers, acupuncture, injections of neurotoxin, massage therapy, and occupational therapy.
What does your migraine feel like?
My migraines feel like someone took a jackhammer to my head or like if someone were screaming into my ear using one of those megaphones. If it’s one of those days when the preventative medication isn’t working, then I’m on the couch lying down.
How did you hear about Cefaly?
I was sitting on the couch, suffering, on one of my bad days and watching the news. I saw this lady she put the Cefaly on and she said she suffered from migraines 24/7 and everything she said was describing me perfectly. She said the device brought her relief. I was just looking at her and afterwards, I went online to print out the news segment. I made an appointment with my doctor at the Veterans Administration and said: “I want this.”
What’s your Cefaly experience like?
It doesn’t cure me but it gives me relief. I use it for 20-minutes each night before bed and I’ve actually been able to sleep through the night now for the first time in 3-years! I’m also not grinding my teeth as much anymore.
What made you want to share your story?
Migraines are so horrible. When you hear of something that can bring you relief and you try it and it works for you, you want to tell people.
