There are three different models of Cefaly devices: ACUTE, PREVENT and DUAL.
- The ACUTE model has only one setting and is intended for the acute treatment of migraine attacks to stop or relieve the headache pain. The acute setting is a one-hour session with a high impulse frequency that must be used during a migraine attack; preferably at the beginning of an attack.
- The PREVENT model has only one setting and is intended for migraine prevention. The prevent setting is a 20-minute session with a low impulse frequency to be used daily; preferably in the evening.
- The DUAL model has two settings: the acute setting (one-hour single session with a high impulse frequency to be used during the migraine attack) and the prevent setting (20-minute session with a low frequency to be used daily).
Cefaly PREVENT is for patients who have three or more migraine attacks per month and only need migraine prophylaxis.
Cefaly ACUTE is for patients who only need an acute migraine treatment and are not in need of migraine prophylaxis. It is intended for patients who do not have very frequent migraine attacks or patients who already have a migraine preventive treatment that works well.
Cefaly DUAL is for patients who need an acute migraine treatment as well as a migraine prophylaxis because they have three or more migraine attacks per month.
A session with the acute setting lasts one hour. It must be used during the migraine attack and may be repeated for a second 60-minute session if the migraine pain is not relieved within two hours, or if another migraine attack occurs.
A session with the prevent setting lasts 20-minutes. It must be used daily and may be done at any time throughout the day, though an evening session is preferred.
The Prevent setting is for patients who have frequent migraine attacks (more than three per month) and are in need of migraine prophylaxis. It must be used daily.
The Acute setting is intended for the acute treatment of migraine and must be used during a migraine attack. It may be repeated the same day if the migraine pain has not been relieved within two hours or if another migraine attack occurs.
If at any moment you feel the intensity is too strong for you, simply press the button to stabilize the intensity or you can even remove the device to stop the session.
Yes, by pressing and holding the button you can quickly ramp up to a desired intensity level. This can be repeated until the maximum intensity has been reached.
One electrode with a magnetic connection is used with the Cefaly during each session. One regular electrode can be reused up to 20 sessions (recommended number of uses for Blue Gel electrodes is 10).
Immediately before applying the electrode, the skin on the forehead should always be cleansed and degreased thoroughly with plain soap and water. As long as the electrode adheres well to the skin on the forehead, it can be used.
Once the session ends, the electrode should be adhered back onto its clear plastic sheet, and stored inside its silver pouch.
Do not leave the electrode exposed and unpackaged, especially in a dry place. It will dehydrate and will no longer function as designed. If cared for properly, a few drops of tap water on the electrode gel can gently rehydrate it and help prolong its usage.
The battery operating life is ranging from 5 to 10 hours of stimulation depending on the program used for each session.
If the Cefaly emits a long beep when you press the button, this means the battery charge is too low and you must re-charge it for at least 5 minutes to be able to get one session.
The sensation produced by Cefaly is strange and unusual, but most people become accustomed to the stimulation quickly, after a few sessions. However, some are more sensitive and may consider the sensation produced by the Cefaly painful. If this is the case for you, press the button and release the button, during the session when the sensation becomes slightly uncomfortable to limit its intensity.
Only 1.25% of patients cannot tolerate the sensation produced by Cefaly, and are unable to complete the treatment properly.
We recommend that you do not use the Cefaly in the following situations:
- Subjects with implanted metallic or electronic device in the head
- Subjects suffering from pain of unknown origin
- Subjects who have a cardiac pacemaker or implanted or wearable defibrillator. This may cause interference with pacing, electric shock, or death
If you are, could be, or may possibly become pregnant, you should ask your doctor before using Cefaly.
The Cefaly device is fully protected against faulty workmanship and defective components for three-years commencing from the purchase date of the device. Please keep the invoice or sales receipt since this is your proof of purchase on the date stated.
Product warranty is void, if purchased from an unauthorized distributor.
The warranty does not cover damage caused by falls, nips, and knocks, which are likely to damage the device. The warranty does not apply to devices whose cases are cracked, broken, buckled, or show signs of poor care. The same applies to devices whose contact pads have been bent, crushed, or distorted by rough handling.
During the three-year warranty period, the device will either be repaired free of charge by an approved service provider, or replaced, depending on the severity of the defect.
